Embracing the past

Archiplan Studio’s mandate was to restore a small apartment in a Renaissance Palazzo in Mantua, Italy. The apartment was filled with fragmented traces of the past including fragments of 16th-century frescoes. Not daunted by the mission, the founders of Archiplan, Diego Cisi and Stefano Gorni Silvestrini, opted to embrace the old and inject in the new. The result is spectacular. Instead of competing, the two styles complement each other in a spectacular way. The contemporary style cohabits happily with the layers of history.

The effect is sleek, restful and refined.

London Residence by David Chipperfield

This private house in Kensington  was designed by David Chipperfield. The house occupies the former site of a Victorian house and features a single storey annex and garage. The project achieved planning permission in 2009 following several months of consultation with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s planning committee, the Architectural Advisory Panel, and English Heritage. The visible concrete has been colored to match the bricks and has an exposed aggregate finish. All exterior door and window frames are generous in size and made of bronze. The main materials inside include travertine floors, oak doors and fittings, and polished plaster walls. source : trendland

Balearic Island paradise, Spain

Eugenia Silva‘s home in Formentera, the smallest of the four main Balearic Islands. The colorful textures, the natural, native elements and nearly primitive vibe makes her Spanish retreat idyllically laid back and absolutely sublime. source : HWTF via Architectural Digest Spain

Maurizio Peccoraro’s Milan Apartment

The space, designed by Milanese studio Dordoni Architetti, under the guidance by Luca Zaniboni, is flooded with natural light entering the space from the side and from above. The clever choice of dark grey walls and concrete floors creates a dramatic effect – the apartment interior has an almost gallery-like quality, with Pecoraro’s extraordinary collection of furniture and art by contemporary artists and masters of design taking centre stage. Furniture by Jean Prouvé, Charles & Ray Eames, Franco Albini and Giò Ponti, mix with ceramics by Fornasetti and other lesser known artists and makers. source : yellow trace via decordemon

Gustavo Salmeron’s Madrid Loft

Spanish actor Gustavo Salmeron had a very clear idea of what he wanted when he set out to design his home in Madrid, a mix between New York, Berlin and Brazil.
Salmeron stripped the 1,937 square ft space of anything that was not structural and achieved a truly raw space which he then converted into an open loft with 2 bedrooms and an office. source : trendland
